Kanjorski Ignores Bloomsburg Univeresity Students

Apparently Charlie Rangel wasn't invited to the event so Kanjorski decided to stay away. J/K. Bloomutoday.com is reporting that the congressman that claims to represent Bloombsburg University students blew off Constitution Day, "an opportunity for students to become more knowledgeable about their rights and opportunities as American citizens.”

After making demands of Bloomsburg University officials to allow him to speak at Thursday’s Constitution Day event, Congressman Paul Kanjorski didn’t even bother to show up. Kanjorski’s staff was not present, and there were not even surrogates speaking on his behalf.

Mayor of Hazleton and Congressional candidate Lou Barletta accepted and attended his alma mater’s invitation to speak. Mayor Barletta fielded questions from students on topics ranging from constitutional issues to the current economic crisis.

“A majority of questions I received were related to concerns about the job market and how to stop Washington’s out-of-control spending. The first stimulus package and now Obama’s proposed second stimulus package have everyone scared. Americans are worried about putting food on the table and paying their mortgage. Washington’s reckless spending is adding to an already difficult situation,” Mayor Barletta said.

Mayor Barletta expressed his gratitude to the students and faculty of Bloomsburg University for being allowed to participate in this very important event. “It’s always an honor to be invited to speak at Bloomsburg. I have such great memories from here while I was a student.”

Kanjorski's Pothole

In a sign that incumbents like Paul Kanjorski face a daunting challenge to retain their seats in Congress a new ABCNews/Wahsington Post poll out more than suggests the frustration Americans have with their elected officials.

A year and a half into his presidency, 51 percent in a new ABC News/Washington Post poll would rather have the Republicans run Congress "to act as a check on Obama's policies," vs. 43 percent who want the Democrats in charge to help support those policies. That's accompanied by a 7-point, one-month drop in approval of Obama's handling of the economy, to a career low.

While Democrats are most at risk, the danger's not theirs alone. Registered voters by 62-26 percent are inclined to look around for someone new for Congress rather than to re-elect their current representative – the broadest anti-incumbency on record in ABC/Post polls since 1989. Backing for incumbents has lost 11 points since February, an unusually steep decline. There are other signs of raging discontent: ABC's Frustration Index remains well in the red zone, at 67 on its scale of 0 to 100, right where it's been all year. It's reached higher just twice, likewise in times of deep economic trouble – in fall 2008, 80; and in 1992, 73.

If the question has been when Obama owns the economy , it looks to be now – not at a happy time, given 9.5 percent unemployment. He'd made slight progress on this key issue, inching ahead from 45 percent approval on the economy in March to 50 percent in June. That's now gone, down 7 points in this poll to 43 percent, with 54 percent disapproving, a new high. And "strong" disapprovers outnumber strong approvers by a record 41 percent vs. 20 percent.

Saying the economy's getting better, moreover, may not help Obama and the Democrats, and indeed could hurt. Just 27 percent in this poll see it improving, not significantly different from 30 percent last month, and surely not on the way up. Claiming the economy was advancing when most Americans didn't see it was the precisely the pothole that swallowed George H.W. Bush in his unsuccessful re-election bid in 1992.

Paul Kanjorski Is So Out Of Touch

Bankruptcies and mortgage foreclosures are up in every county he represents but this is what he has to say about the economy.

Monroe and Pike County Bankruptcies Up Over 20 and 30% Respectively

Howard Frank over at the Pocono Record details how dire the economies are in Monroe and Pike counties.

Bankruptcy filings have jumped 21 percent in Monroe County so far this year as the harsh economy, falling home prices and predatory loans have ripped into the financial health of Pocono residents.

It was worse in Pike County, where bankruptcies rose 30 percent.

Bankruptcy filings (PDF File)Monroe County saw 360 new bankruptcy filings during the first four months of 2010, compared to 297 during the same period last year. Pike's new filings totaled 136 through April 30, versus 105 last year.

"I've never seen the economy this bad," said Philip Stock, a Stroudsburg attorney whose sole practice for the past 16 years has been bankruptcy law. "The mortgage foreclosures are higher than they've ever been."

Paul Kanjorski made this statement back in 2004 about predatory lending practices.

"In my ongoing and extensive examinations, I have concluded that it is just as bad to place families in overvalued homes as it is to finance their homes either with excessive interest rates, points, fees, and charges or without considering their ability to make timely payments. All have the effect of potentially setting up a homeowner to fail," observed Congressman Kanjorski. "We therefore need to work in Washington to address appraisal matters, among other things, in any legislation to combat predatory lending that we consider next year."

In 2008 he issued this press release captured in another article by Howard Frank.

Congressman Paul E. Kanjorski (D-11) will hold a press conference next week in the Monroe County Commissioners meeting room to address the growing home mortgage crisis.

Congressman Kanjorski has been a vocal critic of the current mortgage system, and said it does not effectively protect borrowers from abuses that can occur in the system. As the Chairman of the House Financial Services Capital Markets, Insurance, and Government Sponsored Enterprises Subcommittee, he has introduced legislation to reform lending practices and fight predatory lending.

The date and time of the press conference is expected to be announced shortly.
So in four years Kanjorski is "still working on it".

Then he tries to spoon feed us with his rhetoric. George Campell once wrote [Rhetoric] is that art or talent by which discourse is adapted to its
end. The four ends of discourse are to enlighten the understanding, please the imagination, move the passion, and influence the will. Kanjorski's inaction given the present bankruptcy situation in those two counties should enlist more than enough passion to influence the will against his retention in office.

Kanjorski's Economy And His Unsupportable Assessments

On the heels of self-absorbed comments made by Kanjo strummin his banjo about the economy being the best of all mankind the Wall Street Journal writes today that consumers tightened their spending habits indicating that the economy is not on the road to recovery as potrayed by those in the Obama administration and its supporters.

Americans unexpectedly ratcheted back spending on everything from cars to clothing in May, adding to concerns that a volatile stock market and high unemployment are weighing down the economic recovery.

The Commerce Department reported Friday that sales at retail establishments—including department stores, gas stations and restaurants—fell 1.2% in May from April. The decline, driven by sharp drops in autos and building materials, was the first since September 2009, when sales fell 2.2%.

We all know that Kanjorski is the type to stretch the facts so the people can eat it up. "We are helluva alot better off as a country and as an economy than we have ever been in the history of mankind." He has the balls to say this in the face of double digit unemployment reaching Pennsylvania.

To Those Who Blame Republicans For The Mortgage Mess

Refer to this New York Times article from 1999.

Fannie Mae Eases Credit To Aid Mortgage Lending

Fannie Mae, the nation's biggest underwriter of home mortgages, has been under increasing pressure from the Clinton Administration to expand mortgage loans among low and moderate income people and felt pressure from stock holders to maintain its phenomenal growth in profits.

But Paul Kanjorski will try to tell you the Democrats saved the economy. Where's the liberal press asking Kanjorski to explain that statement from their own liberal publication?

What special interest owns this Paul Kanjorski? This 72 year old cabbage head Incumbent from PA needs to be removed from office! He's held his chair in congress since 1985 - that's 25 years too long! Throughout his career he's grossed over $3,000,000.00 and that doesn't include all of the campaign contributions, gifts, and perks given by lobbyists of the special interests which have bought his congressional vote!

Kanjorski- It Is Time You Retire

If you visit this site the letters are overwhelmingly against Paul Kanjorski and the policies of Barack Obama.

Here is one such letter:

Subject:
You are a rediculously inhuman and insensitive representative!

To:
Rep. Paul Kanjorski

June 30, 2009

The fact that you would vote "yes" to the largest tax hike in the history of America, under the guise of clean energy while the middle american man and woman are already struggling with the largest unemployment rate in decades, along with businesses closing their doors..... as they struggle to feed their children and keep a roof over their heads is contemptible!!!

You representative Kanjorsy are truly a man with no regard for the regular man or woman! You truly are a irrepairable and immoral man in all of your judgement as you allow for politics to dominate your sense of right and wrong.

Its not the "polluters" and the "rich" that are going to pay the cost for your irresponsibility and your political payoff and associations!!!! it is the everyday working man and woman! the ones that even today are struggling to pay their electric bills, keep food on the table, and roofs over their heads!

You truly are less than a human!! i actually thought that their may be some hope for you congressman as i follow your votes.... But you truly are a whore to the democratic party with no remorse and under the false guise of caring for Pennsylvanians while Pennsylvanians are one of the many states that are truly going to bear the biggest brunt of the largest Tax in history, that YOU VOTED FOR!!!

Shame on you! The only good thing i see is that you democrats are making the american people extremely angry which guarantees that your irresponsible and corrupt political involvement in this country will be at an end soon! You better start looking for a new job!

With absolute and resolute contempt,

East Stroudsburg , PA

Paul Kanjorski- When Are We Going To Get Help!!

Unemployment Rate 1999-2009 Source Bureau Of Labor and Statisitcs

Paul Kanjorski campaigned that his senority was needed in Washington. He has been trying to re-invent himself after narrowly winning his seat last election. Well, Paul, tell us when we are going to recover?

Kanjorski stood side by side with Barack Obama during the campaign touting they were "The Right Team." Kanjo said they "would fix America, tax cuts for the middle class, protect Social Security, keep our jobs here at home."

Tax cuts..uhhh NO...as a matter of fact we are hearing rumblings of tax increases
Fixed Social Security...No...Read what the CATO Institute has to say about the trouble Social Security is in right now
Keep our jobs here at home....No..Cash For Clunkers helped bring autoworkers back in CANADA.

According to Kanjorski's own website 143,000 jobs were to be saved in Pennsylvania with the economic stimulus package. Recovery.gov, the government run statistical database on the stimulus progress, lists just 7,427 jobs saved to date. Do the math; its only a little over 5% of what was promised. Congratulations, Paul, that puts us at 27th on the list of Most Jobs Created By State. Some seniority clout.

Look at the unemployment rate chart at the top. Right now we are at 10.2% unemployment with predictions that the rate will remain that high through 2010.

We need another term of Paul Kanjorski like we need a moneyless bank account. Oh, forgot, that's what we will get with another term of Banjo Kanjo.

Bush- Rendell Please Answer These Questions

The Democrats are getting a free ride in Pennsylvania. So much hullabaloo was made over George Bush's econony. Forget that the Democrats had control of Congress the last two years and the laws enacted in the 1990's under Clinton led to this mess.

The Post-Gazette tells us that Pennsylvania is $1.6 billion short on revenue estimates for the year. The article goes on to state Gov. Ed Rendell has previously forecast that the state will face about $2.3 billion in red ink by June 30, the end of fiscal 2008-09, and the new report seems in line with that projection. But some Republican legislators fear the deficit could be even worse than Mr. Rendell estimates, perhaps as much as $2.6 billion.

Where is the furor over what is happening in Pennsylvania? What is being done to bridge the gap?

Here's one move Rendell did to bridge the gap- transferring $175 million from legislative leaders' budget surplus. What the hell were the legislative leaders, not the entire legislature, doing with an $175 million dollar surplus????

That's our money folks. I think Eachus and McCall should explain it to commoners like us. To put this into perspective. I know of a company that does $100 million in revenue that employs almost 1,000 people. Do you realize how many people are not employed because the legislative leaders kept a surplus?

I know the argument back so save it because they wouldn't have used the money to save Pennsylvania employees' jobs if it weren't for the downturn. The real question to ask is if they would have used the money to create 1750 new jobs if there was no downturn. So much for the economic geniuses in Harrisburg.

Cut the legislature by 40% would save $100 million. Back to those 1000 jobs I was talking about. Imagine the pension savings that would occur. But the Harrisburg solution was to toll I-80. Take care of business in Harrisburg first before coming after the electorate. You may not like the consequence if you don't.

Bill Clinton- Videotapes Refute Your Statements

Typical Democratic BiPositionionship from Bill "I didn't have sex with that woman" Clinton.

Former President Bill Clinton gives President Barack Obama an "A" grade for his first month in office, but tells ABC News that Obama needs to put on a more positive face when speaking to the American people about the economy and must keep pressure on Republicans who try to obstruct his plans.

Regarding Obama's bleak warnings that "the economy could get worse before it gets better," and that the economic stimulus program is only the beginning of the end of the economic crisis, Clinton said, "I like the fact that he didn't come in and give us a bunch of happy talk. I'm glad he shot straight with us."

Clinton gives former President George W. Bush a harsh review on the economy, however, blaming the Republican for the current fiscal crisis by not moving sooner to help struggling homeowners avoid foreclosure.

"I personally believe, based on my experience over the years with the economy, that if we moved aggressively on this home problem a year and a half ago, even a year ago, as much as 90 percent of the current crisis could have been avoided," he said.

On really Bill. Sit back and watch the video. News reports detailing the actions by both former president Clinton and current president Obama, and how they lead to the current financial collapse America is facing. The second half of the video is especially interesting, as it contains footage of interviews with Obama in which he details how important it is to force banks into making bad loans.

"But aggresively to take a great risk on these mortgages, yes...They would have not qualified but for this affirmitive action on the part of the bank, yes."
