Democrats Already Worried About 2010

The vultures are already lining up. The casket companies have a stimulus package of their own ready for legislators who see a "fatal end" to their terms (not really but you need a little humor in this political business).

The Associated Press is reporting on TimesLeader.com that House Democrats could be facing stiff competition from the political headwind and fallout over continuing job losses. The bank failure catastrophe is far from over and healthcare reform lost more gas than was gained by selling fuel efficient cars in the Cash For Clunkers program.

The liberal media is in the tank with newspapers closing shop, radio stations consolidating in the hopes of stemming losses, and Jay Leno trying to help NBC from what looks like a serious injury that could possibly result in a slow death. In their quest to help Democrats win, the media lost credibility. In the Democratic quest to win they forgot one undeniable tenet. You must deliver what the people want. Businesses know they must continue to do so if they want sustainable growth.

One must have the right goals in mind to keep on winning. Democrats are not in tune with what the nation really wants. The last election was a reflection on how fed up people were with George Bush. Instead of learning from that victory the Dems are following the same path through different methods and judging by the polling numbers are quickly finding out that narcissm only serves the master not the mass.

Luzerne County and Pennsylvania government are the same animal. Each has demonstrated a pompus arrogance toward the people they represent. Their own games are more important than serving the people.

Today's Standard Speaker article by Robert Swift highlights my points very well. The caucuses are more important than the people they represent. After reading the article I am having a hard time separating out mob culture from caucus mores. "You follow our rules, you vote the way we say, or you will find yourself a very lonely person."

The views expressed in the caucus meeting shape the voting on the House and Senate floor. This can make reaching across the aisle for bipartisan agreement more difficult as demonstrated by the long deadlock over the state budget, now 75 days overdue.

The partisan divide that has held up the budget deal is reinforced by the culture of King Caucus. While not mentioned in the state Constitution, the four caucuses are an outgrowth of an entrenched two-party system. State laws give the caucuses legitimacy and provide extra salary for caucus leaders.

I guess Paul Kanjorski won't be having Potatoes O'Brien any time soon for breakfast. Roderick Random(aka Borys) talks about the race between Corey O'Brien and Kanjo next spring.
Kanjorski's problem comes when he tries to divorce himself from the banking industry. His inaction landed us smack in the middle of the worst recession since the Great Depression. People are not going to forget that no matter how much air time he receives on CNBC.

wow, i thought you would have posted the article in today's Standard Speaker, you know the one where the Republicans on Council are in disagreement with the Mayor, a mystery plan? lol.

I thought Republican, especially ones like the Mayor, you know staunch ones, ones that really believe in their "live within your means" philosophy would understand what Councilwoman Graham is talking about. you know Councilwoman Graham, the one you have showing in a full page ad on your blog, is she now NOT correct when she states the City must live within its means?

Where in that Standard Speaker article does it state that the Mayor does not want to live within his means? As a matter of fact he stated he is willing to forgo his salary if it means keeping personnel in the emergency services department. That is not living outside your means. That is finding a solution that is revenue neutral.

Evelyn Graham's comment in that article "Hazleton is in desperate circumstances and I believe Senate Bill 961 is the perfect place to start," Graham said.

Where in that ad does Evelyn Graham state the city can live without its means? I compliment her. She used her own money to make a point.

The point the Mayor is making is that police are last on his list for layoffs. It appears he believes that protection of the citizens rises above other services provided by the City.

Mr. Yannuzzi favors police layoffs. Plan B is a controversial form of contraception. I guess anything named Plan B will be controversial.

AS far as the mystery plan goes why don't you wait to see if he has one. Hold his feet to the fire. I bet he doesn't flinch.

You don't want me to highlight the Democrats who are having a problem with Obama at this point including a Latino congressman from Illinois.

Disagreement without being disagreeable is always welcomed. Your point is specious at best.

Abracadabra!!! to quote the editorial in the standard speaker " the scariest scenario is in the city of Hazleton, where officials are facing a bidget deficit approaching ( play the drum-roll please) TWO MILLION dollars!!!!!!!

this didn't happen overnight, the proverbial rubber has met the road, and our Dear Mayor needs to "pull a rabbit out of the hat"! you got to be kidding me. pull a rabbit out of his hat after he ROLLED THE DICE!

he needs to try leadership. forgiving his salary for the rest of this year wont do squat in keeping first responders on the job. he has continued to play politics, running for every office but doing the one he has, and that is running the City of Hazleton.

Now i am sure you will blame all or some of the following, a state rep, a former city administrator, a US Congressman that wont do a thing for the city, former Mayors that left him issues, immigrants, illegal or legal, you see my point.

when will he take responsibility that he let the City down in his performance?

(this was the reply of a Hazleton city worker in a comment to the story in the standard speaker)

Is this what the mayor is considering?

Maybe it's time to consider a jointure of Hazleton, West Hazleton, and Hazle Twp. into one municipality. It would create the 5th largest muni in Pa., thus providing a greater share of Grants and CDBG monies. You could also combine services, equipment and the workforce; thereby reducing your costs and providing better service. The tax base would be larger, therefore taxes could be lowered or equalized throughout the 3 boro's. Eventually you could reduce your workforce thru attrition/ retirement to provide a balanced system.Everyone would have Police protection, Fire protection, Highway maintenance, Code/Health services, and Municipal Engineering services. This would create a better, safer, environment to raise your family.

is he looking to lose the identity of the City and hope that other municipalities bail him out? BAIL HIM OUT, now there are three words Republicans dont like to hear!

take repsonsibblity Mayor, and be a leader,

I am glad you see it my way..That was your point wasn't it. Failure of others that hurt the City of Hazleton. On that point I couldn't agree more.

Your consolidation point is well taken. But you lost your credibility when you went to bashing the Mayor about it. Why didn't you let your proposal stand on its merits? Why did you mingle it with your mudslinging? But just a hint and I really shouldn't do this. You are off target when you thought you shot his rabbit.

The provincial and parochicial views in this area are its downfall. "We need a Freeland school, we need a Valley school, we need a McAdoo school. All those municipalities merge, what would we name it? I serve on a board how dare someone want to take that away from me." People should get over themselves around here.

Consolidation would be for the good of the Greater Hazleton Area including surrounding communities.

Hazle Township- you refuse to hire police. Do you know how much revenue you lose with every stop sign that a person runs, every speeder that isn't caught? You could probably pay for an officer or two just with that revenue. Ohh but God forbid you would team with Hazleton to provide that service and create a win-win situation.

But to you poster that was just a tease. Nope, naddda, nahh you aren't even close as to what the rabbit looks like.

You are entitled to your view of the Mayor's performance. But I must type a disclaimer that the fictitious representation of facts and the view of posters do not represent the owner of this blog, its stations owners, Google, Santa Claus, rabbits, or any other kind animals.

Bail the Mayor out? Com'on be a better person than those in this area that only see two feet in front of their noses.

The Mayor is only custodian of the Office of Mayor for the City of Hazleton. He doesn't own the office. It is owned by the City's residents. This is not another Mayor year; this is another year for the municipality known as the City of Hazleton.

Any bail out of Hazleton is for its residents, not transient owners of the office. Any long term solution will assist future Mayors and councils from facing the same financial dilemmas facing this Mayor and Council today. If there is a bail out it will also bail out future Mayors and Councils from hard choices. You don't formulate a one year plan. You have to be like PennDot and look at a 5, 10, or 12 year plan and beyond.

BTW thanks for the inspiration to show how the Dems are falling apart nationally in my other post.

Ohh and by the way, in case you haven't been paying attention to Luzerne County events, here are three words a whole lot of Democrats have been hearing lately-"You're Under Arrest." The Mayor may have attracted the attention of the Auditor General but its a whole lot better than attracting the attention of the FBI. If I were you I wouldn't be so quick to bash the Repubicans right now. You need to get a H.E.A.R.T. Very soon you will understand that part.

from an observer at your H.E.A.R.T. meeting ....

"Yesterday, the county Republican Party had a sparsely attended news conference in their shiny new digs in the Mid-town Village in Wilkes-Barre with PA State Supreme Court nominee Joan Orie Melvin as the headliner. Two of the three row officer candidates didn't even bother to show up. You still have to work on this party unity thing folks."

you can have all the fancy offices you want, all the patting on the back to one another what a great job you will do this coming election, you DONT HAVE THE VOTES.....
you cant even get the candidates to show up let alone the voters on election day.

but at least you tried, AGAIN>

Uhh...Well..uhhh.. Republicans have to go to work unlike Dems who don't have to work becuase they are getting all the bribes....I hear the next Democratic Rally is scheduled at the Federal Magistrate's office.

Fancy office...obviously you weren't in it. Fine offices...let's go to Eachus's office or Mellow's office...Kanorski's office...Casey's office...Specter's office..(oh let me take Specter's office back he is like a person who refuses to come out of the closet)let's talk about fine digs...let's talk about reserved parking spaces...what an alpha hotel....do you ever think about your posts before u post them???
