Kanjorski In Trouble
From CQ Politics:
Pa. Is Keystone in House GOP’s Path to Majority
By Greg Giroux, CQ-Roll Call
Roll Call’s current House race ratings include 10 of Pennsylvania’s 19 districts as among the 104 districts that will hold competitive elections this fall — the most in any state.
“Pennsylvania will be the ultimate bellwether this year, because we have more competitive congressional seats than any other state in the union,” said Charlie Gerow, a Pennsylvania-based Republican strategist. “Pennsylvania is, it’s fair to say in the red-blue continuum, a very purple state right now.
Another Pennsylvania rematch will take place in the Scranton-area 11th district, where 13-term Rep. Paul E. Kanjorski (D) will face Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta (R) for the third time in eight years. The congressman won their most recent race, in 2008, by just over 3 points.
Kanjorski’s weakness in the Democratic primary — he won just 49 percent of the vote against two challengers — suggests he will have trouble holding the Democratic base in a district that usually votes strongly for that party. Kanjorski will tout his seniority as helpful to Pennsylvania.
In this article by Charles Schillinger of the Times Shamrock the writer asks the question "Will Kanjorski face anti-incumbent fervor?"
About 17 percent of primary voters, 12,000 Democrats, cast ballots for challenger Brian W. Kelly, an unknown outsider running on a Tea Party movement platform who has no political experience, raised no money and said he did not do any door-to-door campaigning.
That voters from Kanjorski's own party were so willing to embrace an unknown over their senior congressman "should be troubling" for Kanjorski, said his general election foe, Republican Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta.
In a three-way race, Kanjorski won 49 percent of the vote - 15 percent more than his closest competitor, O'Brien, who received 34 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results.
For an incumbent who wants to tout his seniority he couldn't even capture half the votes of his own party in the primary. Kanjorski and Mitchell have more than homework to do. They have to figure out how to save their sinking ship. For Arlen Specter the agony is over. Kanjorski may experience a slow painful process.
Kanjorski makes the claim "Democrats have a lot of work to do to sell their message to their constituency," Kanjorski said. "We literally saved our country. When we do get that (message) out, we'll get the loyal response from the Democratic electorate.
What Paul is really saying is that our granchildren and their children saved our country. It is their money that he, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid used to triple the national debt. Our siblings will be stuck with the tab.

Carney In The 10th- Marino Is A Huge Challenge
In a district that is pro-Republican Chris Carney has enjoyed the incumbency of his office in a surreptitious way. He is flying under the radar hoping not to be noticed that he is out of place in the grand scheme of voter sentiment.
Here's how his bio starts in Wikipedia. Christopher P. "Chris" Carney (born March 2, 1959) is an American politician and member of the United States House of Representatives, representing Pennsylvania's 10th congressional district. One would think that his military career would supercede the words "American politician". Carney is also an associate professor of political science at Penn State Worthington Scranton, where he has taught since 1992. Again, secondary to "American politician" first.
In today's political climate marked by the ouster of Arlen Specter one would believe the last thing you would want to promote is being a "politician". Even Congressman sounds better than politician.
In this Times Leader article by Andrew Seder political observers explore whether Chris Carney will have a rough fall campaign against Republilcan Tom Marino.
“Marino has a record of public service, he has name recognition, he has big name Republican support, and he will take better advantage of this targeted district in this tough atmosphere for Democratic incumbents.”
Listening to Tom Marino on WILK he sounds like a very respectable and likeable candidate. His association with Louis DeNaples has been a terse topic but in the end, knowing Northeastern Pennsylvania, it is more about jealousy than substance. How many people associated with Michael Conahan and Mark Ciavarella? How many people associated with Michael Veon? Ask Tom Leighton about his association with Bill Brace.
The "D-sucking at the nipple-triple CCC" took no time in launching salvos at Marino. Lest they forget that Carney as the author of that famous Feith-Carney memo George Bush used as information, well he was provided misinformation, to get us into Iraq. It is rarely talked about and I believe the biased media wants it that way.
Carney's ability to raise money will be a nemesis for Marino. However, no amount of money and support can divide voter sentiment otherwise Arlen Specter would have been a victor.

Some Number Crunching In The PA 116th And The US 11th
Using this Pennsylvania government website one can ascertain what municipalities comprise a legislative district. Todd Eachus represents the 116th district- Hazleton, Hazle Township, Butler Township, Freeland Boro, Black Creek Township, Conyngham Boro, Foster Township, Jeddo Boro, Sugarlaof Township, West Hazleton Boro, and White Haven Borough.
Gary Visgaitis, graphics artist award winner for the Times Leader put this graph together for his reading audience that lists the voter registrations by municipalities.
The PA 116th voter registration comprises 18,618 Democrats and 11,932 Republicans. According to the Luzerne County vote tally link on the right 30.81 percent of the Democrats registered voted in Luzerne County and 29.81 percent of the Republicans registered voted in this primary.
There is no reason to believe that those percentages varied widely among municipalities. If one multiplies the number of registered voters by the respective percentages that turned out at the polls it tells an interesting tale. Eachus received 3,655 out of the approximately 5,736(18,618 times 30.81 percent or .3081) that cast ballots on the Democratic side or around 63.72 percent. That means that 36 percent of the voters on the Democratic side skipped him on the ballot.
Likewise Tara Toohil, Eachus's opponent in November, received 2,764 out of the approximately 3,512 (11,932 times 29.81 percent or .2981) that cast ballots on the Republican side or around 78.7 percent. For a newcomer only 21 percent skipped her on the ballot.
Those stats spell trouble for the House Majority Leader who should be able to garner a heck of alot more votes due to his leadership position. Of course it is no secret that Eachus lost touch with his constituents and lost their trust with the per diems, owning a second home in Harrisburg, and his association with Robert Powell. His bold move against John Yudichak and extreme loss by Tom Leighton whom he openly supported only spells further erosion of any juice he might have.
It clearly demonstrates he is in trouble in Harrisburg. Bill DeWeese won his renomination bid. Last time we checked DeWeese and Eachus were at each other's throat over lawyer confidentiality in Bonusgate. We're pretty sure Yudichak will be returning to Harrisburg with a few unpleasant memories that he will want to address.
If you really want to see a disturbing number for candidates click on the Lackawanna County link to the right. Out of 40,217 registered Democrats who actually cast ballots in this primary on a total of 24, 122 voted for either Kelly, O'Brien, or Paul Kanjorski. That is an undervote of almost 40 percent.
If you click on the Monroe County link and go down to the "Representative in Congress 11th Congressional District" then click on "View by Precinct" Kanjorski and Barletta's vote count are side by side. Look at the numbers. Paul, things aren't looking too good for you in November.

How Paul Kanjorski, Nancy Pelosi And Harry Reid Spent Our Money On TARP- $24 Trillion Dollars
From Judicial Watch-A Financial Comparison"
The government economic bailout altered the role of the Federal Reserve and the government's relationship with private enterprises. Schooled in the Great Depression, Fed Chairman Bernanke feared a repeat and wielded unchecked power. Many question Bernanke's fear of "contagion" (i.e. the spreading of bank disaster) and the long-term effects of unchecked Fed power. Paying the bill ultimately rests with the taxpayers. When trillions of dollars are pumped into institutions that would have otherwise gone bankrupt, the significance of not only the action, but its magnitude are hard to comprehend.
Judicial Watch's table puts into perspective the magnitude of bailout spending. To provide a scale of comparison, Judicial Watch presents numbers to connect expense with the perspectives of individual short-term, individual longer-term, and a nationwide short-term focus. How does one comprehend a trillion dollars? Much less $24 trillion? To note, the numbers are not transparent. Various sources provide different estimates. We have compiled numbers from a variety of sources including CNNMoney, the Federal Reserve, Department of Treasury, etc. The bailout is constantly evolving and so we focus on the money committed rather than spent. These commitments, however, can also change, and programs can be created instantaneously with unprecedented Fed power. The estimated worst case scenario is that the bailout will cost the American people nearly $24 trillion. Explore the table and you will find relevant news articles, links to Judicial Watch's investigations and lawsuits, and relevant comparisons.
No wonder Paul Kanjorski enjoys taking all that money from the banking industry and Freddie and Fannie.
To put a trillion dollars into perspective if one stacked one dollar bills one at a time on top of each other a trillion dollars would rise 68,000 miles into the air or one third of the distance from the Earth to the Moon. Just like Robin Williams in his history on golf "Do you do this one time? Heck no 24 trillion fn times!!! And they blasted Bush for $700 billion dollar deficit???

O"Brien Supports Barletta Over Kanjorski
While not a straight line equation these are the words of Corey O'Brien prior to his defeat yesterday by Paul Kanjorski.
“The only way to stop the bleeding is electing Democrats with fresh faces and fresh visions,” O’Brien said. “If we don’t do that, and we go into the election with the same old tired incumbents, we’re going to get wiped out.”
From The Times Leader:
In unofficial results, Kanjorski, 73, of Nanticoke, received 33.783 votes to 23,236 for O’Brien and 11,512 for Brian Kelly, a professor at Marywood University. That means 34,728 Democrats who had a choice didn't choose Kanjorski. Lou Barletta received 28,311 votes. I wonder if Kanjorski can hear the buffalo pounding the turf.

From these results it is apparent that Paul Kanjorski has an uphill battle against rival Lou Barletta to keep his seat. There were overe 12,000 votes against Kanjorski in Luzerne County.
Steve Urban has no chance against John Yudichak in the PA Senate race. It was interesting that the word on the street was Todd Eachus made claims Tom Leighton was going to carry Hazleton by a 2 to 1 margin.
Todd Eachus shows definite vulnerability given his open campaign against John Yudichak and the small difference in total votes vs. Tara Toohil's count. Tara is a newcomer to the scene.
Eachus's vulnerability with his closeness to Robert Powell despite his protestations about being concerned with juvenile rights coupled with his multiple name appearances in court documents including an invitation to appear before the Grand Jury related to Bonusgate and collecting over $27,000 in per diems supporting the mortgage on his second home in Harrisburg means he will have to work hard to repair his image. Eachus's condencending attitude towards his constituents will make that battle all the more difficult.

There's A Scandalous Practice At The Voting Polls In PA
That's right folks. It is unbelievable what is occuring at Pennsylvania's polls across the state according to Dan Hirschhorn's blog PA2010.com.
"Sordid" he says. Lou Barletta as well as other well known scandalous practitioners are taking children into the voting booth. Wait a minute...where's the booth???
Gabriel, grandson of Lou Barletta, seems to be intently focused on the democratic process. Did I say "Democratic" while Republican Lou Barletta was listening???
Tara Toohil who will be facing Todd Eachus in November was spotted voting with the girls. It's contagious teaching kids democracy I tell you!
