Yannuzzi And Graham Job Creators Leads to Continued Employment For Hazleton

In the City of Hazleton Municipal races for Mayor and City Council, Mayor Joe Yannuzzi and Councilwoman Evelyn Graham placed this ad in the Standard Speaker to highlight the amount of jobs both officials created in Hazleton during their lifetimes.

Yannuzzi created several companies that continue to operate today.  Yannuzzi Inc., Yannuzzi Plumbing and Heating, J Distributing, and Crossroad Computers were started by Joe Yannuzzi and still operate today in some capacity.  Yannuzzi Inc. and Crossroad Computers continue to operated under their same name.  Yannuzzi Plumbing and Heating is now part of Zola's Plumbing and Heating.  J Distributing is now YOU Trucking.

Evelyn Graham and her late husband, Seymour started Kama Plastics in the Heights Section of Hazleton.  Eventually the company was sold to Alcoa who then sold it to Multi-Plastics, Inc.

The amount of jobs remaining in Hazleton from those business startups is at least 250 jobs.

Their opponents have no job creation experience or any adminstration experience.  Grace Cuozzo has refused to answer the question surrounding her Social Security Disability award, however she has not held a job in decades according to her State Ethics Commission filings.  Her inexperience in any management position as well as any elected governmental position cannot be ignored in applying for the lead job in Hazleton.

John Medashefski opposed portions of the Illegal Immigration Relief Ordinance that is very popular with most voters in Hazleton.  Past remarks by Medashefski regarding the direction from the city's chief executive supports the following assessment.

Yannuzzi's experience and leadership speak volumes to the reason voters in Hazleton should re-elect Yannuzzi to the position of Mayor.  Yannuzzi has brought the compliment of officers in the Hazleton Police Department back to 40.  He has added two additional code enforcement officers and one health officer to help with the City's enforcement.

Yannuzzi announced that the deficit spending of the last few years has been stopped in the year 2010.  It appears that financial results will have the city breaking even when compared to its budget.

Yannuzzi brought in the Pennsylvania Economy League to look at all operations of the City of Hazleton and asked for recommendations.  Their overall examination will be reported in the future and can provide a blueprint to keep Hazleton's operations in the black.

The candidates will face off in a debate to be aired on Channel 13.  Let's see if Cuozzo can act like a proper person and leave the name calling at the door.

Graham's accomplishments in the Hazleton area are too numerous to mention.  Her generosity and committment to Hazleton residents make her re-election an almost certain victory.

Polling numbers for both Yannuzzi and Graham show significant leads, however they intend on campaigning right up until the polls close.

Eachus "Chickened" Out

Over the past few weeks Tarah Toohil has been calling on her opponent, House Majority Leader Todd Eachus, to face off in a debate. To date Eachus has refused her request. Toohil held a press conference last week condeming Eachus's attacks upon her family and again asked for a debate.

Toohil expressed deep concern about the behavior of our government, "While Tax'Em Todd is busy taking your money... he is also busy spending it on himself," she said. "He voted himself an illegal pay raise and then never returned the money. He voted himself a pension increase of 50%. He pays himself extra- $27,000 extra last year in per diem money and this money and then paid for a second home in Harrisburg with your taxpayer money. $27,000? That’s more than the average salary in our community… and this is what he gives himself."

She discussed how she is helping to raise two god children who do not have a mother. And how she has taken care of her own ill mother much of her life. In a Q&A period, she did confirm she actually donated her own kidney to her ill mother. She discussed how she grew up in a house her grandfather, a coal miner, built, "My family, like many in our area has been hit hard by economic tough times and I work hard to support them. He is asking who I am. I am one of you," she emphasized.

She discussed her plan for improving the area," We need to create an environment where businesses can grow," Toohil said.
"We need to cut taxes for the small businessman. Our Corporate Tax is one of the highest in the nation...We were promised property tax relief in exchange for table games… When elected, I intend to find out where that money is going… and make good on that promise. "

And then she directly commented upon Eachus' performance, " Our legislature is out of control… and my opponent is leading the pack."

She ended the press conference by demanding Eachus cease attacks upon her, her family and that he "stand up, like a man, and debate."

Evidently someone wanted to "peck" at Eachus over his failure to address her demand. Eachus has followed Kanjorski's footsteps. His hired gun, David Georges, speaks to the media for Eachus. Does Eachus fear answering the difficult questions Toohil, an attorney, puts to him? On the other hand it appears Toohil is ready to debate.

Kanjorski's Disappearing Act

The following letter/article was printed in the Pocono Record 10/01/2010.

Howard Frank: Paul Kanjorski's disappearing act
Float like a butterfly; flee like a bee

By HOWARD FRANK
October 01, 2010

 Dear Congressman Kanjorski:

I am so disappointed with you.

The country is beset by record unemployment and a deep economic downturn. People — your people — are truly suffering.

Pocono voters will choose their leaders in November.

Your constituents. In your 11th Congressional District.

Yet you refuse to appear before them.

You've scheduled only one debate with your opponent, Hazelton Mayor Lou Barletta, to take place less than a week before Election Day. And that's it.

The Pocono Record asked you to meet with its editorial board. To sit across the table from your challenger, to stake your positions on issues that affect our readers' lives.

You refused.

Duck and cover isn't just a Cold War-era slogan. It's become a signature of your campaigns.

During your last run in 2008, you dropped out of an East Stroudsburg University debate with Barletta. At the last minute. You are avoiding debates like I avoid telemarketers.

When I called Barletta's campaign spokesman, he said: "You get us a day and time and we'll be there. We're not ducking the issues. We're not hiding from people."

Then I asked your staff about another debate. They refused.

Your spokesman said: "We don't see a value in giving Barletta forums to spread his lies about the congressman and smear him like his TV ads do."

But you're thumbing your nose at your constituents.

You are our congressman. You're our representative. Our envoy in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The public deserves to know where you stand. Meet you face to face. Look you in the eye. That means something to people.

You've also mostly abandoned town hall meetings, saying you can reach more people via the telephone.

Congressman, you can't represent the people if you won't appear before them.

Now, I'm not naive. I understand incumbents like to lie low, limit campaign risks and ease their way back into office.

But politics is a game that should be played on behalf of your constituents, not against them.

We can put a discussion together on the issues with other local media outlets. C'mon, we're not talking about the "Rumble in the Jungle" here. More like the "Debate in Penn Estates."

Without more debates, you do a disservice to yourself, your office and most of all, your district. The very one you are asking us to represent.

I've gotten to know you over the years. You're smart, quick on your feet, eloquent, even charming. Your opponent, he's a decent guy. Hard working, dedicated to his ideas. A gentleman.

Why hide like a child in a thunderstorm? Share your ideas and hold them up to scrutiny.

Our voters deserve a fearless voice. Make your case. Stand up. Show us what you've got.

Congressman Kanjorski, man up.
