Joe Collins writes an opinion column over at PAwatercooler.com that addresses whether Pat Toomey is too conservative to win Arlen Specter's seat. You can click on the link to read his very interesting observation.
Something happened in the Presidential election that almost goes unnoticed. The media, the Democrats, and all of the "jump-on-the-bandwagoners" pounded Bush and the Republicans for doing a terrible job. They claimed it was time to try a new strategy. Yet, at the same time they claimed Bush and the Republicans abandoned their conservative principles to government, spent too much money, threw fiscal restraint out the window, allowed sub-prime mortgages so people who could not afford homes got them, signed a Medicare prescription drug program that expanded that massive social program, and passed budgets packed with pork that ballooned the national debt. Folks, that is the Democratic program. It didn't work, yet Barack Obama will have us believe that more of it is what this country needs.
Tom DeWeese(not to be confused with Bill DeWeese) wrote a prophetic column in 2004 about Bush abandoning the Republican mantra against Big Government and Big Spending.
Still, the White House argues that the economy is on the rebound and, if one looks at events on Wall Street, housing sales, and other economic indicators, such a case can be made, but what is being ignored is (1) the huge debt Americans, old and young, have individually as they struggle to pay rising property taxes, (2) meet the demands of an income tax that takes more than forty percent of their earnings, and (3) pay the countless hidden taxes on everything that affects their daily lives.
As (4) jobs disappear to nations where wages are so much lower than ours, (5) as our manufacturing base decreases, as (6) our agricultural interests reap more government financial support, as (7) more and more jobs in America become “service”, i.e., low-pay Mac-jobs, and (8) as the most important segment of our economy, entrepreneurs and small retailers, are strangled with endless mandates, ordinary people who vote are asking themselves if this White House understands or cares about their problems.
Are there differences between the Republican and Democrat Parties? Yes, but the line has been so blurred by the policies and actions of the White House, a rising tide of distress is being expressed from within the Party... As my Democratic friends stand behind Barack Obama's policies keep in mind that George Bush wasn't any different. It is only perception that fools the untrained eye. And not supporting Obama's policies is not a stand against America, it is a stand for America.

Is It Time For A Term Limits Push?
Over at PAWatercooler.com I came across a post from 2007. Due to Vince Fumo's conviction I think it is worth a repost. I have high respect and regard for John Yudichak before I read this post.
Terms Limits February 2 2007
Filed under Pa House, Region - NEPa by Bill Fitz
John Yudichak, the best lawmaker in Northeast PA, has made a great proposal, term limits on legislative leadership.
“Legislative leaders who hold the reins of power from decade to decade … can easily fall victim to errors of human nature and become insulated from public opinion and sound judgment,”
The tendency for House leaders to become entrenched in their posts is a key reason reform has been slow to arrive in the General Assembly, according to Mr. Yudichak. Leaders resistant to change often wield their powers as “insurmountable impediments to meaningful reform,” he said.
I personally know Yuddy (I have affectionatelygiven him a cool nickname) from my time in NEPA, and I can testify that he is an honest hardworking public servant.he voted no on the pay raise, and he has been declining most if not all of the perks since 1998.
The folks over at PAWatercooler do a great job.

Obama Folks Going After The Criminal Vote

PAWatercooler has three great posts about this topic. Courting the Felon Vote.
Felons Can Vote.
Felons Voting
Hop over to Tony Phyrillas' site and look at his article "Felons For Obama".

I envision the lines at voter registration after the cleanup at the Luzerne County Courthouse and the Bonusgaters pour through the courts.

Rev. Al Sharpton- Publicity Opportunist Extraordinaire

Rev. Al Sharpton attacked this cartoon claiming it is racist. Yo Rev. Why didn't you attack this cartoon two days before for picking on blind people?? I guess there is a distinction on whether one African-American is blind or not.

BTW Al, I believe the Porkulus Spendulous package was authored by more than one person. Quit your whining. Sean Delona's comments: "It broadly mocks Washington's efforts to revive the economy. Again, Al Sharpton reveals himself as nothing more than a publicity opportunist," Allan said in a written statement.
Visit Political Rants and see what the ZenMaster has to say about it.
Look at this post on PAWaterCooler.com
AG Eric Holder, Rev. Al Sharpton, and other black spokespersons do more harm than good for their cause. We aren’t cowards. Almost everytime a white person talks about color somehow it is twisted as racist. So here goes. This country did not elect an African-American as President of the United States. The country elected an American. Barack Obama was born in Hawaii. You are Irish if you are born in Ireland. You are Italian if you are born in Italy. You are an American if you were born on American soil and your birth certificate says so. Yet, it is important for people of color to point to Barack’s skin tone.
His heritage makes him half white. So why didn’t we elect a white President? All of the sudden skin color matters?? The men in military who were born in this country fighting overseas or serving anywhere, are they Americans, or because of their skin color, are they African-American? Do they fight behind the American Flag or the African-American Flag? Every soldier I ever met was proud as hell to be an American.
If you were born in this country the only way you are going to take ownership of that title is to seize it, not disguise it. The President of the United States needs to be a leader in the forefront of the discussion. He has to tell America that Americans are Americans. If you were born here, grew up here, worked here, and retire here you should be proud to be an American. Our ancestors who came here created the melting pot. But those of us who are born here are not part of that pot. We are part of the United States of America. And the sooner people of color take ownership of that title the sooner their perceived “Berlin Wall” will come crashing down.
If you don’t want to be called black quit pointing it out. In all of my point please do not lose sight of the fact that everyone’s cultural heritage is important, no different than religion. Traditions are not lost when one calls him/herself an American. Parents teach their children about where they came from in the timeline of life. Nothing in that teaching interferes with the birthplace of a person. And I do believe that should never be lost. It is something to be shared among Americans. It is something to be explored by Americans. It is something that we do as Americans.
Eric and Rev. Al, the ball is in your court now.

Porkulus Robulus Of Our Moneyus
I was reading PA Watercooler's post about the Porkulus Bill. There has been so much GOP bashing over the lack of support it nauseates the soul. If you want to read where it will be spent look here. In the end it was the three GOP Amigos who made it happen.
But if you want a real "you have got to be f....ing kidding me" reading look at what Obammamessiah has to say about budget deficits according to the Wall Street Journal.
With a $787 billion stimulus package in hand, President Barack Obama will pivot quickly to address a budget deficit that could now approach $2 trillion this year.
He has scheduled a "fiscal-responsibility summit" on Feb. 23 and will unveil a budget blueprint three days later, crafted to put pressure on politicians to address the country's surging long-term debt crisis.
Speaking Friday to business leaders at the White House, the president defended the surge of spending in the stimulus plan, but he made sure to add: "It's important for us to think in the midterm and long term. And over that midterm and long term, we're going to have to have fiscal discipline. We are not going to be able to perpetually finance the levels of debt that the federal government is currently carrying."
So Chosen One..how in the hell are you going to finance the new levels?? Are the Chinese going to buy more of our debt? Why is the mainstream media letting him get away with this? How can talk about managing debt when you are creating it faster than the Space Shuttle Takeoff??
Projections for 2009 deficit range from Goldman Sachs's $1.43 trillion to $1.9 trillion from economic firm Strategas Research Partners. At 13.5% of GDP, a $1.9 trillion shortfall would more than double the peacetime record during Ronald Reagan's presidency, and approach the mark set in 1942 as the U.S. joined World War II.
